Composer’s Kitchen (2)

Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2016 | Composer’s Kitchen 2016

Composer’s Kitchen 2016

This unique event revolving around the string quartet is a combination workshop, laboratory, playground, and master class. Over the course of a week, the Quatuor Bozzini and two experienced composers will observe the work of up-and-coming composers. Their compositions will be read, played, assessed, analyzed, worked on, played again, and performed in the closing concert.

The Quatuor Bozzini (one of this year’s ensembles in residence at Gaudeamus) will stage their annual Composer’s Kitchen in the Netherlands, specifically for Gaudeamus Muziekweek. It is a workshop, laboratory, play area, and master class for young composers all-in-one. The delicacies cooked up in the Kitchen can be sampled during the concert. Part 2 focuses on two new compositions by Gaudeamus Award nominees, Shih-Wei Lo and Anthony Vine. Their compositions have been created in Composer’s Kitchen in the previous seven days; this is the first public performance of the farm-fresh notes. Canadian composer James O’Callaghan (also a nominee) did a stint last year in Composer’s Kitchen with Bozzini. His composition pre-echo has now been completed and takes pride of place in the programme.
