Thordur Magnússon

Born in 1973, the year of the Westman Islands volcanic eruption,Thordur Magnusson works as a composer and music teacher. He completed his composition degree at the Reykjavik College of Music in 1996 as a student of Gudmundur Hafsteinsson. Following his graduation, he continued to study privately with Hafsteinsson and then went to France for his post-graduate education. Mr. Magnusson was admitted to the composition department of the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, one of only four individuals selected for admission from a large group of applicants. While in Paris, he studied with Emanuel Nunes and others. Upon his return to Iceland, Mr. Magnusson quickly gained recognition for his compositions. Among the groups that have performed his works are CAPUT, Trio Nordica, and the Ebos String Quartet. He has written some dozen or more works for various combinations of instruments.
