Namenlose Gärten (“Nameless Gardens”) is a string quartet composed for the Quatuor Bozzini. My point of departure was a set of india ink drawings published in the book Privates by the Austrian artist Tobias Pils (2001). Most of the twenty drawings are called No Title. Only three have titles: nos. 3, 4 and 17, which are called Gardens. Tobias Pils once told me that most of the others also represent gardens. I liked to visit these gardens, even the untitled ones.
