Work

Program Notes

The piece was commissioned by renowned mathematician, Dr. Jim Stewart, for the inaugural concert in the performance space in his new home. Sharman composed the piece especially with the acoustical and physical space of the house in mind. In the first movement, the violins and viola are on the second floor and the cello on the main floor. The music is written such that it can be heard from any place in the space without compromising the listener’s experience of the work. The house was designed by architects Brigitte Shim and Howard Sutcliffe.

The concert was a private performance for an invited audience of two hundred people. The first public performance of the piece was given by the Bozzini Quartet en 2009.
