Asko Hyvärinen

Asko Hyvärinen has studied percussion, music theory and musicology in Helsinki and Turku, Finland. His composition teachers have been, among others Harri Suilamo, Tapio Nevanlinna and Helmut Lachenmann. He has attended international composition master classes with Jukka Tiensuu, Yoshihisa Taira, Stephen Montaque, Adriana Hölszky and Brian Ferneyhough among others. Asko Hyvärinen’s list of works consists of orchestral works, solo pieces, chamber music (from pieces for duos to pieces for chamber orchestras and mixed ensembles) and works for stages.

Several works by Asko Hyvärinen have won prizes in international composition competitions such as: the UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers (Vienna, 2005), the Ars Poetica Composers Competition (Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, 2003), the International PanAccordion-2000 competition and the Newtune competition. Mr Hyvärinen has received numerous grants from foundations, among others: The Art Council of Finland, The Sibelius Foundation and The National Council for Music (Finland).

Asko Hyvärinen’s works have been performed at numerous concerts and festivals in Europe, North America and Japan. Asko Hyvärinen is a founder and artistic director of the Shingle Church Music Festival.
