Maxime McKinley studied composition with Michel Gonneville and Isabelle Panneton in Montréal, as well as with Martin Matalon in Paris. He was winner of the Prix d’Europe de composition (2009), eleven prizes in the SOCAN Foundation competition for young composers (between 2003 and 2011), and the Prix collégien de musique contemporaine (2011). His work Hommage à Louis C. Tiffany, commissioned by the Fondation Arte Musica for the inauguration of the Salle Bourgie at the Musée des Beaux-arts de Montréal, was nominated for the “premiere of the year” at Prix Opus (2013). His works have been performed all over Canada, as well as in the United States of America, France and Mexico, by orchestras and ensembles such as Ensemble contemporain de Montréal, Esprit Orchestra, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, New Music Concerts, and Trio Fibonacci, as well as soloists including Julie-Anne Derome, Jérôme Ducharme, Matthias Maute and Matan Porat. McKinley is a member of the artistic committee of the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) and of the national council of the Canadian League of Composers (CLC). His writings have appeared in Québec and France, including in Circuit, musiques contemporaines, for which he is now a member of the editorial board, after serving as admistrative director and editorial secretary (2010-2012). He is currently composer in residency at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur.
