Jean-Frédéric Messier

Founder and artistic co-director of the Momentum theatre company, Jean-Frédéric Messier has written and directed many of his own plays, notably Œstrus, Helter Skelter and Nuits blanches. Some texts he wrote, among others, are: Au moment de sa disparition (winner of the “Masque” award for the best original text in 2003), extasyland.com and Wigwam (Critic’s prize winnner, in the youth category, and the “Masque des enfants terribles”, in 2003 at “Gala des Masques”.) Six of his plays have been published and he was an invited director for varied French or English theatre companies, in Québec and abroad. He directed as well Sirius on Earth, an opera, in London (UK) Venise-en-Québec and Mademoiselle Eileen Fontenot pour les dix sous de liberté, at Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui in Montréal. Aside from all these realizations, he has composed music for the groups Extasium and Hochelaga, for theatre and dance, and for varied screen formats. He has composed also the music for the two first seasons of the TV series États Humains and has just finished the one for Higglety Pigglety Pop, a puppet movie coproduced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and Warner Brothers.
