Christopher Reiche

Christopher Reiche is a performer, composer and instructor living in Victoria, British Columbia. He graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2006 having studied composition with Linda C Smith and Peter Hatch and piano with Anya Alexeyev. He then went on to Victoria British Columbia where he completed his Masters in Composition with Christopher Butterfield and Anna Höstmann.

He enjoys composing works for ensembles of various sizes. In September of 2009 the Aventa Ensemble premiered his work Ruins Runes as part of their young composer’s workshop. His works have been performed by the Quatuor Bozzini, The Vancouver Miniaturist Ensemble, the Aventa Ensemble, Michael Strutt and Eric Wilson, the McGregor/Nesselroad/Chan Trio, and the orkest de ereprijs. In his music he uses subtlety to explore the interplay between stasis and motion through the use planes of sound. He is also currently interested in the interplay between musicians and tries to write scores that encourages the musicians to interact with one another as opposed to just interacting with the score in front of them.

Christopher is a founding member of LaSaM and has been performing with them ever since their formation in 2008. In 2009 he directed their production Nosferatu’s Shadow in which LaSaM accompanied FW Murnau’s film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Terror. He was also invited to perform in the premiere of Margaret Ashburner’s They Let Their Brushstrokes Show held at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.

When not composing Christopher can be found teaching music, going to art galleries or curling up with a good book.
