Musique et architecture

This concert is being recorded by Radio-Canada — Espace Musique

A concert dedicated to the music of Giacinto Scelsi and Iannis Xenakis, two composers who derive their music from architectural ideals, both in very different ways. In both cases, the musical content derives entirely from musical architecture — in place of melody, harmony, rhythm, we hear entirely the structure. These composers are almost never performed side by side, as their schools of followers consider themselves to be very different from each other. Here we have programmed an early work and a late work from each composer, to give a rare opportunity to compare, to experience four very different objects of musical architecture, of musical space.
