Interlude has been performed in Montréal…

Interlude, the latest work I have so far written for Satoko Inoue, reflects in its second half my recent concern about complex contrapuntal texture. However it may sound contradictory, my counterpoint does not really connected to polyphony. For, the contrapuntal texture in my piece is nothing but one created by splitting up a single melodic line, rather than combining several independent voices. Therefore, it can still be said that even this apparently contrapuntal music is stemmed from the idea of “linear music”.

The title interlude suggests that a piece of music I write (indeed any of my composition), although sounding as if an autonomous, self-sufficient, independent work, stands in between two eternities, the past and the future: the things that have gone, and the things that will come.
