Ian Dickson

Ian Dickson is Assistant Professor (Teaching) in the Music Department at Durham University, UK, where he directs the modules in harmony and counterpoint and in orchestration. He studied music at King’s College, London, the University of York, where he was awarded a PhD in Composition, under the supervision of Prof Roger Marsh, and the University of Cambridge: he is currently completing a PhD in Musicology, which has been supervised by Prof Nicholas Cook. He also attended composition summer schools at Royaumont and Apeldoorn. His other compositions have been performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (Montréal), the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, and the pianists Satoko Inoue and Rika Zayasu. His musicological essays have been published in Music Analysis and twentieth-century music.
