Program Notes

The doors in the title hearken back to a childhood memory. A large, dark blue image on a cardboard sheet, with perforated doors numbered 1-25. Starting on the 1st of December, my sisters and I would take turns opening one door each evening until Christmas. Behind each door was a new illustration, each one very different from the last. Even as the years went by, we never seemed to tire of this ritual. 7 miniatures of this cycle were composed in 2005, and I opened 6 more “little doors” in February and March 2010. 12 more will be on their way for 2011. The computer sounds are made mainly with recording of the Bozzini Quartet. There are also sounds from an electric piano, an harmonica, a cd of Haydn’s “Fifths” string Quartet and a vinyl record of Bartok’s 4th String Quartet, mvt II and IV.
